The Little Mermaid live-action movie will destroy your childhood

Being a mermaid is tough. There’s only so many clam bras that you can choose from. And despite what Disney taught us, there’s no way their hair looks like that without some serious soul-selling to Ursula. To give us a little more insight into what it actually feels like to be a mermaid, the universe decided to grant us a retelling of The Little Mermaid and her adventures with the two-legged kind.

The first look at the live-action movie based on Hans Christian Anderson’s The Little Mermaid is here and it couldn’t be more different than the Disney classic.

A budding journalist (William Moseley) is sent on an assignment to investigate a possible real-life mermaid and he takes his sister (Loreto Peralta) with him. They discover that the mermaid (Poppy Draton) is, in fact, real, but a part of her soul has been captured by an evil villain. She will, of course, die if the soul is not returned to her. There’s also the possibility that the little sister is also a mermaid, because she is a human with a mermaid’s heart. But aren’t we all?

While Ursula and Sebastian are sorely missed, the trailer looks intriguing enough for us to put a temporary halt on our protest placards. But knowing how actively Lindsay Lohan is campaigning to play Ariel in the remake of Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’, we might just have a Mermaid Off on our hands soon.
