L’Oréal Paris to launch new make-up app

If this new app is as good as the first wave of online reviews claims it is, the days of trying make-up out on your hand at the store are now passé – and about time. L’Oréal Paris is set to launch their new virtual make-up app, Makeup Genius, and from the looks of it, it’s going to be amazing. This is not your static photo app that pastes a very fake-looking patch of colour in the name of eyeshadow or lipstick. This app lets you scan your face and then try on different shades or even looks (there’s a cat’s eye option!) that look very realistic. And – this is really cool – it maps out 64 points on your face, so you can see what your liner looks like if you squint or wink in real time, just like a mirror. It works with all ethnicities and skin colours, too.

The app is slated for a June launch and probably won’t be free, but it’s a small price to pay for never again having to throw out a lipstick you couldn’t try at the store.
