Love it Or Hate It, The Naked Dress Trend Is Here To Stay

Naked dresses aren’t newly introduced in fashion. Different eras had designers and fashion icons reinventing this trend, by giving their own spin. How can anyone forget the iconic moment when Marilyn Moroe walked in a completely sheer dress to President J.F Kennedy’s birthday in 1962? Or the 2014 Rihanna version by Adem Selman that practically broke the internet. As the barely-there dress is slowly becoming a red carpet  regular, here’s our favourite transparent dresses we’ve been loving lately. From Kendall Jenner and  Zoë Kravitz on the Met red carpet to Megan Fox and Hailey Bieber at this year’s VMAs, the memo was – go bold or go home!

1. Kendall Jenner At Met Gala 2021

Dress

Kendall Jenner owned the met steps this year in this diaphanous embellished dress by Matthew Williams for Givenchy. As an ode to Audrey Hepburn’s elegant gown in My Fair Lady, this outfit did justice to the rendition but kept Kendall’s risk-taking style intact.  Case in point: the transparent silhouette with see-through underwear is the supermodel’s go-to black-tie fashion move.

2. Zoë Kravitz At Met Gala 2021

Dress

There’s cool and then there’s  Zoë Kravitz level of cool. For Met 2021, she came dripping in a bejewelled YSL mesh dress layered on an encrusted bra and thong.

3. Megan Fox At VMAs 2021

Dress

Megan Fox channeled the energy from Jennifer’s Body and came on the VMAs red carpet to KILL. She looked like a vision in a flesh-hued Mugler dress with a revealing embellished thong.

4. Olivia Rodrigo At Met Gala 2021

After a princess-like appearance at the VMAs in vintage Versace a day before, the Driver’s License singer showed up for the Met Gala 2021 looking like a punk rockstar. Olivia Rodrigo arrived in a lace catsuit by YSL detailed with faux fur and chandelier earrings.  Of course, with a visible panty, she marked her entry into fashion’s controversial club.

5. Bella Hadid in 2018

Another iconic Mugler look was debuted by Bella Hadid for a red carpet event in 2018. Instead of a dress, the runway savant wore a nude jumpsuit with a thigh-high cut outlined around the underwear. Attempting the adventurous trend, the Bella Hadid way.

6. Kourtney Kardashian in 2021

Kourtney – the sassiest of the Kardashians, re-wore the classic Dolce & Gabbana laced outfit, first popularised by pop princess Britney Spears. She rocked the look with a short bob and went without any accessories, retaining the focus on the translucent number.

7. Hailey Bieber at VMAs 2021

Offering a sophisticated version of the see-through dress, Hailey Bieber stepped out for the 2021 VMAs in a white bodycon sheer dress. With the right amount of opaque, Hailey’s adaptation of the trend was impactful without being OTT.
