The Hispanic food joint hits you with all the subtlety of a hurricane once you step in: Funky armchairs in an explosion of pop colours, classic chequered floor tiles and bright floral prints lovingly frame a 10-foot high Frida Kahlo mural. Likewise, the cuisine does a merry tango from Mexican to spicy Caribbean, ending with traditional South American.
The sunny eatery is a labour of love of by restaurateurs Abhishek Soparkar, Sidharth Matta and Davindar Arora. Probe them about the choice of a feminist icon right at the entrance, and they simply explain, “Luca with its infinite ceiling, bold lighting and surrealistic feel and colours resembles Frida’s artwork which is a mix of surrealism and reality. You might as well have stepped into one of her colourful self-portraits after walking into Luca.”
