Manish Arora’s final collection for Amrapali
It’s a riot of candy colours and sweetie elements
Manish Arora’s fourth and final collection for Amrapali is here. It’s got cupcakes and hearts – all tied together with traditional Indian appeal. Think conventional gold earrings, cuffs, rings, palm rings, necklaces and belts in candy stripes and Peruvian patterns.
Speaking about the final installment of the collaboration, Manish said, “A sporty youthfulness runs through the collection. Ethnic-inspired gold jewellery [is] updated with colourful sweetie elements.”
Akanksha Arora, head of design, Amrapali, whose favourite piece from the partnership is the Gazelle ring from the Spring/Summer 2013 collection, said she would miss anticipating what trends Manish would bring, collection after collection. “We’ve really pushed our boundaries to explore uncharted territories, especially when it came to production. For instance, we’ve never used neon enamel colours and 3D animal shapes before. It was a challenge for our craftsmen to bring Manish’s ideas to reality but I’d like to think we did a good job in executing his vision.”
Manish went through Amrapali’s archive to gain inspiration, and gave tribal jewellery a modern twist throughout the two-year association. Akanksha credits the collaboration, which is “so obviously Manish”, for making the label younger, edgier and more fashion-forward. And the admiration is mutual, says Manish, “Creatively speaking, I couldn't have thought of a more encouraging partnership.”
