Masaba Gupta is one of India’s busiest designers. Between launching prêt lines and high street collaborations with brands like Koovs, the social media savant also manages to ensure her Instagram feed is an endless source of travel envy.
On March 2, she also announced the launch of her denim line. Not another entrant into the world of skinny vs flared, but a collection of summer-ready crop tops, dresses and saris with polka dot patterns and gold foil detailing that you’ll no doubt see splashed all over social media. “The idea really came from the denim sari that Sonam (Kapoor) wore,” Masaba says, referring to the minor internet sensation caused a few months ago when the Bollywood star was photographed wearing a denim drape, the result of a midnight phone call between Masaba and Sonam’s stylist-sister, Rhea. “My prints translate really well onto denim, so we decided to do a whole range for the summer.”
Despite the obvious question, she’s consciously stayed away from jeans because “there are already so many players in the market and people are usually very conscious of what they like. If you wear Gap jeans, you will only wear Gap,” she reasons.
