Masaba Gupta will be showcasing at the grand finale for Fashion Scout Spring/Summer ’18, one of the largest independent events held during London Fashion Week. The event highlights emerging talent from around the world, and Masaba has been selected as the only Indian designer to present her collection as part of India Day at the event.
“INIFD (Inter National Institute of Fashion Design), one of the sponsors at Fashion Scout reached out to me for this. London is a pretty big market, and I’m super excited to be showing there,” says Masaba.
This collection will see her diverting from the quirky prints and vibrant colours she has come to be known for, and will be establishing what she calls a “silhouette story”. “This is a new line which targets European sensibilities, yet is culturally rooted. This won’t a thematic show,” she reveals. The collection will see more separates—as opposed to the complete looks she usually presents —in understated tones. “I want to first have a strong understanding of what the customer there wants, which is why this collection will be more retail friendly.”
The designer is also planning to do a trunk show in London before and after her show. “We recently did one in San Jose and it was well received. We’re now getting ready to enter New York and Los Angeles soon,” she says.
The show will take place on the 19thSeptember at the Freemasons’ Hall in London.
