#ELLEReview: Masaba Gupta’s Instagram show

When Lakmé Fashion Week and Masaba Gupta announced their Instagram show (the first designer in the world to have one) for Day 1, there was a lot of curiosity. How was this going to work? Was it being shot live? Would it have (*shudder*) selfies? A minute-by-minute update showed us all of Gupta’s 19 looks, including the show-stopping cheery yellow dress worn by Nargis Fakhri. We now know what the collection looks like, but we missed a few other things that usually make a runway show – no moody music to be heard, no encouraging grins to be seen, no goose bumps to be felt.

What we loved: The saccharine-sweet hues that mingled with forest green and dark brown, the voluminous candy wrapper-printed peasant dress and the geometric-meets-tribal blazer dress.

What we missed: A 2-D view of all her candy-inspired confections meant that we missed seeing how the clothes fit (our screens are much too small!), how the fabrics moved, or even the richness of the textures and the prints she’s hugely popular for.
