Met Gala Is Returning For Its 2021 Edition And We're Revisiting The Past Advertisement

As Met Gala Returns, We’re Scrolling Through Our Favourite Fashion Looks

Equal parts historic and very much OTT

News flash: Fashion’s biggest night, Met Gala is set to return this year with a complete bang. Split into two parts, the gala will break its long-standing tradition of being held on the first Monday of May every year. Instead, we can look forward to a fall gala in September 2021 followed by another event in May 2022. Double doses of sartorial excess? We’re not complaining!

After being postponed last year indefinitely owing to the global pandemic, Met Gala will aim to celebrate the American fashion community and the challenges it faced due to Covid-19. Keeping this at the forefront of the event, the theme for the September edition will be ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’ which will lay emphasis on contemporary designs. While the second edition in May 2022 will revolve around the theme, ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’ which aims to illustrate style through 300 years of personal and political historic narratives. History aside, celebrities turning up in the most striking outfits make a strong case for the night. From Katy Perry’s chandelier moment to Lady Gaga’s hot pink silhouette, swipe through for our favourite fashion looks from the Met Gala red carpet:

Dressed in a faux-fur, mustard gown by Guo Pei, Rihanna looked like every bit of royalty. The best part? Her look was in tune with the theme for Met Gala 2015— China: Through the Looking Glass (notice the print detailing and head accessories).

Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Nick Jonas and Bella Hadid

The couple and the supermodel were seen together at the Met Gala 2019. PeeCee rocked a yellow and pink gown by Dior.

Cardi B

The singer made an appearance at the Met Gala 2019 in a Thom Browne creation with a massive trail.

Celine Dion

The iconic singer wore a shimmery, 22-pound Oscar De La Renta dress with a gigantic, over-the-top feather headpiece at Met Gala 2019.

Cara Delevingne

The British model and actor opted for a sheer rainbow-striped playsuit by Dior for the 2019 Met Gala. She finished her look with a Swarovski embellished cane.

The singer proved that she’s quite the queen of sheer silhouettes donning a barely there Guo Pei gown at Met Gala 2015.

Blake Lively

Blake Lively. Versace. Just the perfect combination.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Back in 2013, Sarah Jessica Parker made all the headlines thanks to her ornate gold-and-black mohawk headpiece.

Frances McDormand

Staying true to the 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination' theme, Frances McDormand dressed up as a fashion angel in a Valentino Couture look. What stood out, in particular, was the butterfly headdress.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry dressed up as an angel for the 2018 gala, complete with custom Versace giant feathered wings.

Lady Gaga

For the Met Gala in 2019 with the theme, ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’, actor and singer Lady Gaga turned heads with a dramatic entry in a hot pink, voluminous gown by Brandon Maxwell.

Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana's over-the-top embellished Dolce & Gabbana train was one of the most memorable looks in 2017.

Kendall Jenner

Wearing a super sheer, cut out dress by La Perla, supermodel Kendall Jenner made a statement on the red carpet in 2017 with her barely-there, risqué look.

Katy Perry

Met Gala is infamous for looks that make you stop and stare and Katy Perry proved exactly that at Met Gala 2019. The singer donned a 40-pound costume designed by Moschino.

Amal Clooney

The humanitarian and barrister looked like a breath of fresh air in a deep red, ruffled gown by John Galliano.
