Michelle Obama was at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California on Tuesday, and besides talking about women in STEM (we need more of ’em!), she also addressed a major double standard she faced in the White House.
She shared that her husband, president Barack Obama (heard of him!?), almost always wore the same tuxedo and shoes to formal events for eight years. Now, can you even begin to imagine if a woman had done that?! I can’t, and neither can Michelle.
“Now, people take pictures of the shoes I wear, the bracelets, the necklace—they didn’t comment that for eight years he wore the same tux, same shoes,” she shared.
She continued: “And he was proud of it too. He’s like, ‘Mmm, I’m ready. I’m ready in 10 minutes. How long did it take you?’ I’m like, ‘Get out of here.'”
