Meet Tina and Nikita Sutradhar, winners of the LVMH Special Prize
After graduating from the London College of Fashion last year, 25-year-old Tina and 23-year-old Nikita Sutradhar joined forces to create Miuniku, a ready-to-wear line of luxury clothing for the modern woman. The label joins their nicknames, ‘Miu’ and ‘Niku’, to stand for the dual nature of the label’s aesthetic, shaped as it is by both sisters. Described by the girls as “clean lines and graphic details, mixing minimal and maximal elements”, Miuniku turns to the straight silhouettes of menswear and combines them with bold colour to create a new brand of basics that captured the attention of some of fashion’s most legendary names. Only two collections old, the duo were nominated for the LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize earlier this year, and have since claimed attention from all over the world. “We’re doing some research for our next collection, and we’ll see what happens after the announcement,” says Tina, when asked what’s next. “But at the moment, we’ve got a lot of personal orders to fill from this last collection.” With their keen eye for on-trend cuts and innovative use of colour, we’re not at all surprised.
Last night, the two sisters won the Special Prize along with Hood by Air and London designer Thomas Tait won the LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize.
