Promptly putting rumour mills to rest, Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski has been appointed as the new artistic director at Hermès for womenswear.
Earlier this week, in a move that left the fashion world reeling, Christophe Lemaire left office to focus on his own label. And ever since the news broke, Vanhee-Cybulski was hotly tipped to succeed him.
Though she’s a lesser-known figure, Vanhee-Cybulski holds an impressive resume. She has previously worked as senior designer at Maison Martin Margiela (former womenswear chief at Hermès) and Céline (under Phoebe Philo), and until recently, she was the design director at The Row. She will debut her maiden Fall/Winter 2015-16 collection for the house early next year. And, we reckon, she will continue to take the minimal route.
“We welcome the arrival of Nadège,” says Axel Dumas, chief executive officer of Hermès. “Her talent and her creative track record will be great assets in the continued development of women’s ready-to-wear.” Hear, hear.
