The theatre entrepreneur’s new initiative is breaking the fourth wall

If you plan to watch a play by this NID graduate, don’t worry about the scramble for a good seat. Thirty-one-year-old Kotian recently set up Crow productions with Prashant Prakash (they previously founded Quaff theatre with Kalki Koechlin) to bring audience-inclusive theatre to India – irrespective of where you’re seated you’ll be roped into the drama. Their debut offering, The Bliss Of Solitude, also written and directed by Kotian, is set in the dystopian future where “man moves underground because the surface of the earth is uninhabitable.” The sci-fi drama, currently in production, will prompt audiences to actively explore the set, mainly propped with e-waste. As Kotian designs a multi-pronged future for Crow, which includes designing immersive marketing tools and setting up workshops to bolster the craft in India, she’s also scouting for venues for her next play, about “a 40-something actor who’s played a rabbit for 10 years.”
