Name to know: Shivum Sharma

Shivum who?

The London-based 18-year-old is best described with multiple hyphens: half-Irish, half-Indian, fully-soulful singer-songwriter.

Ooh, but what’s his sound?

He lays his falsetto on to piano-flecked harmonies apt for broody evenings. ‘Flicker’ is full of melancholic longing because he was going through “teenage times” but the soft, synth-laced ‘Only You’ will make your head bob.

Does he have cred?

His EP Flicker was released in March this year by the folks who gave us 2013’s hottest acts, Haim and Chvrches. He’s worked with British producer Kwes on this, who’s previously collaborated with The xx and Damon Albarn.

And, what’s the verdict?

Critics at NME called him a “promising artist” in the vein of James Blake. Dazed & Confused magazine dubbed him “London’s new soul hero”.
