Jacqueline Fernandez’s fitness trainer just introduced a killer new workout

Add some bounce into your routine

If you’re haunted by the very thought of a treadmill, celebrity fitness expert Namrata Purohit is here to introduce a more fun way to get fit. Called Boogie Bounce, this 50-minute session at The Pilates Studio in Mumbai involves channeling your inner child to workout on a mini-trampoline.  While Purohit’s loyal students, Jacqueline Fernandez and Malaika Arora Khan haven’t tried their hand at it yet, celebrities like Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow swear by this technique for a full-body workout.

The cardio-heavy exercise starts with a warm-up and breaks into a series of jumps, bounces and stomps, all coordinated to the sound of the coolest beats in town. “Expect a calorie burn of about 700 kcal while you effectively bust fat, improve your body strength, stamina and balance,” says Purohit. Though it sounds like there’s going to be a lot of strain on the knees, Purohit comforts us to say it’s right for just about any age group since the impact of body weight is absorbed by the trampoline. There’s also a safety bar if you’re the clumsy kind and need additional support.

Jacqueline Fernandez and Sonam Kapoor

The aerial yoga gang

Because just doing impossible stretches and asanas on a grounded yoga mat is oh-so-mainstream. Bollywood besties Jacqueline Fernandez and Sonam Kapoor have both taken to anti-gravity yoga to work on their flexibility, sweat off those extra calories and possibly jack up their Instagram cred too. We mean, just look at Jacqueline's mean split.

Alia Bhatt and Nimrat Kaur

The ballet batch

Looking for something a little more fun than just a sweat sesh on the treadmill? Spin some fun back into your gym date with ballet. Alia Bhatt mixes up her workout routine with regular twirls at a ballet studio to work on her mobility and flexibility, while Nimrat Kaur signed up for Cindy Jourdain's boot camp to regain her agility for performing stunts for her movies.

Nargis Fakhri and Neha Dhupia

The Zumba club

For those days when you just can't bring yourself to head to the gym, pop in some Zumba DVDs and let your body do the rest. And that's the true story behind how Nargis Fakhri got herself bikini-ready in two weeks for an urgent photoshoot. Neha Dhupia, another long-time advocate of the fitness form, prescribes it as the best way to beat gym ennui.

Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Huma Qureshi

The Pilates pack

Founded by Joseph Pilates, this fitness form originally started out as a rehab practice for wounded soldiers in World War I. Deepika Padukone’s svelte bone structure means that she was born to be a card-carrying member of the Pilates club. Katrina Kaif, on the other hand, isn’t a naturally flexible person and puts some serious sweat into those pull-ups. Huma Qureshi discovered her passion for it when she realised how good it made her feel along with how great it made her look.

Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Sonakshi Sinha

The yoga troops

From flab to fab, calculating the number of fitness success stories in Bollywood that owe their credit to yoga requires a calculator and a proficiency in advanced mathematics. Sure, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Aniston are headlining the yoga gang abroad, but they were beaten to the punch by Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Sonakshi Sinha among (many, many) others in India.

After delivering her gorgeous son Taimur, it was business as usual for Kareena who headed for her yoga session shortly after getting back on her feet. Her preferred form? Bikram yoga in a room with 40% humidity.
