Throw Rahul and Pooja out the window, it's #Bollywood2018
It’s 2018 and we’re steering clear of conventional pairings, with these brand new Bollywood couples who’re set to hit the big screen. There’s no Sid, Alia, Varun love triangle here. With the influx of new stars, the now-seasoned actors are getting new dynamics and dimensions.
We’re seeing Bollywood veteran actresses like Kareena Kapoor Khan being paired with indie heroes like Sumeet Vyas in surefire hits like Veere Di Wedding. Newcomers like Ishaan Khattar performing in big-budget films with more than just critical acclaim riding on them. Forget about the Shah Rukh Khan/ Kajol formula that guaranteed sold-out shows for several generations — those days are gone. If these interesting new Bollywood couples are anything to go by, there’s no longer a winning formula and anything goes.
New Bollywood couples who will take over 2018
The Bollywood circuit is abuzz with the idea of a love story between these two starlings. Khattar and Kapoor have been shot together on numerous occasions by the paparazzi — working out, post-dance practice or grabbing a salad together. Seriously, their film at this point needs no additional promotion. Dhadak is also the first film for Janhvi, who returned to set a few weeks after the news of her mother Sridevi’s passing.
The female-oriented film has Kareena Kapoor Khan cast opposite Sumeet Vyas, making that the second film in a row where Kareena’s character’s love story is part of a larger plot. The first being Udta Punjab opposite Diljit Dosanjh. We’re curious as to whether this new pattern will stick. It's also Kareena's first movie as a new mom.
The first period drama from both actors and their first time sharing screen time, Alia plays a Kashmiri spy married to a Pakistani (Kaushal) during the Indo-Pakistani war in ’71.
Sara Ali Khan hasn’t even made her debut yet, and she’s already been cast opposite one of the best in the biz. Sara has signed on to her second film opposite Ranveer Singh. The action film is being directed by Rohit Shetty and co-produced by Karan Johar. The film is set for a December release, a week after Sara’s debut film, Kedarnath comes out.
We’re glad there are no Alia Bhatt/Shraddha Kapoor pairings here. It’s time we saw some fresh chemistry and new faces. If you’ve wondered who the attractive lady next to Varun was in all those paparazzi shots, you’ll find out soon enough. Banita Sandhu plays Varun’s love interest in October.
Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh may have been overexposed by the paps on her first film and their first time on–screen together, but now fans seem to be more excited about a new pairing. Sanjana Sanghi who made her début in Rockstar will be starring opposite Sushant in the remake of The Fault In Our Stars.
After Shahid Kapoor climbed the ranks to establish himself as one of Bollywood’s biggest names, his younger half-brother Ishaan takes a crack at it. Acting opposite Malavika Mohanan in Majid Majidi’s international project Beyond The Clouds, the Hindi film with music from AR Rahman is one of this year’s big bets. The rising stars will be playing siblings in this 'triumph of the human spirit' drama, a welcome change from teenage love stories , we think.
From being a member of the "I hate Katrina club" to playing the actress' romantic interest, Varun Dhawan has gone full circle in his relationship with his new co-star. The pretend club started when Salman reprimanded Varun when he caught the young actor checking out Katrina Kaif 15 years earlier. Since then, both actors have proved their dancing chops and bagged roles opposite each other in Anybody Can Dance 3, dubbed India's hottest dance film.
