Just as the modest fashion movement is documenting the style of those who follow religious or personal dress codes, a new tumblr called Turban-Esque celebrates the dapper men and women who cover their heads with the Sikh pagdi or dastar. Started by Jaskirat Chahal and Jaskaran Chauhan, this Vancouver-based street style journal features young, urban Canadians who have a public as well as a private relationship with their faith. A particularly spiffy gentleman, who appears on the site in a well-fitted blue button down offset by a deep red turban, explains why he started wearing the pagri: “I looked in the mirror and all I saw was this twenty something year old ‘boy’ looking back at me. I wanted to be a man. I wanted to look like a Sikh man. I wanted to look like a Sardar. I wanted to look like my dad, I wanted to make him proud!”
