Indulge in some sartorial nostalgia with Onitsuka’s ’90s-style chunky sneakers
We speak to the creative director, Andrea Pompilio, on his favourite pieces
ELLE: What is the main concept this season?
Andrea Pompilio: The concept is called ‘Downtown Rave’. I drew inspiration from the illegal parties I went to in the ’80s and early ’90s, where they played techno and the mood was very psychedelic.
Oversized silhouettes, bold colours and logomania reigned supreme
ELLE: What are the key pieces ?
AP: Chunky sneakers, shiny and matte fabric jackets and tracksuit from the ’60s have all been reinvented in a contemporary way.

ELLE: How do you add your signature style to the designs?
AP: Onitsuka Tiger has a very strong history; and every season, I try to give the brand an opportunity to grow without dramatically changing its identity.

ELLE: What are your favourite pieces from the collection?
AP: Even though Onitsuka Tiger has grown a lot as a ready-to-wear brand, I’ll still pick the sneakers.
