Deepika, Alia and Parineeti know how to dress like a princess
Meet the designers behind their royal wardrobes
If last week’s fashion was all about relaxed separates (check it out here), celebrities this week are channeling their inner princess. Kate Middleton would definitely double-tap on this royalty-ready lineup featuring princessy ballgowns (hello there, Saiyami Kher), side trains (can we have another twirl please, Alia Bhatt?) and classic Sabyasachi saris (Deepika Padukone would like to plead guilty.)
From cocktail night to evening soirées, take note of these designers who are powering the best dressed of Bollywood currently.
The designers behind our best dressed celebrities
Deepika Padukone in Milly
Deepika backed up her HT Most Stylish Global Icon trophy with these uber chic fit-and-flare separates from Milly. The American label’s Fall 2017 collection was dictated by a moody undertone, in response to the recent political turmoil following the presidential elections. Think sombre greys and deconstructed formals.
Alia Bhatt in Reem Acra
The designer behind Alia Bhatt’s quirky separates is as inspirational as the lady wearing it. Reema Acra got her big break when a fashion editor noticed the intricate embroidery of the silk organza gown she was wearing. And that’s not even the best part; the gown in question was crafted by Acra herself from her mother’s dining tablecloth. Since then, the designer has gone from strength to strength and today, is the darling of the Oscar red carpet.
Deepika Padukone in Sabyasachi
The Spring/Summer runways looked a little forlorn without a grand Sabyasachi blowout, but it was only a matter of time before his Udaipur 2017 collection began spilling into the wardrobes of Bollywood A-listers. While Deepika found a match in this lush hand-painted sari, our in-house psychic is betting big on his panelled lehengas and pastel Benarasi fabrics becoming a mainstay on the red carpet soon.
Saiyami Kher in Daniele Carlotta
What do Saiyami Kher and Beyoncé have in common? They are both fans of Milan-based designer Daniele Carlotta. After Queen Bey offered up a shoutout in her ‘Formation’ video, Saiyami took his luxe creations for a spin at the HT Most Stylish soirée. Fast facts: The designer is a lurex fiend, and knows how to make a girl feel like a princess.
Parineeti Chopra in Avaro Figlio
Summer is officially here, and Parineeti is taking a little ray of sunshine with her to the red carpet. Cute: this peppy striped dress that was shipped over from Avaro Figlio in Milan, Italy. The haute couture house prides itself on its lively print-on-print detailing (notice the subtle polka dots at play here.) Monochrome is a recurring feature across the label’s Spring/Summer ’17 collection, but they also know how to whip up a mean voluminous gown.
