“Kareena Kapoor Khan is the most chilled-out bride I have ever met,” says Manish Malhotra, ahead of his Lakmé Fashion Week grand finale show. Malhotra says that he had made two lehengas for the actor’s sangeet, and “she just chose one of them without even trying them on”.
The designer will be showcasing his latest collection, ‘Gloss’, with the beauty brand’s ambassador Kapoor Khan taking to the runway for the final walk. “I have never seen Kareena in abla,” says Malhotra, when talking about his Indian cocktail collection, which is heavy on mirror work and gold embroidery. The line, curated for pre-wedding occasions such as the sangeet, is in sync with Lakmé’s latest gloss collection, embodied in the use of mirrors and the set will resemble a bridal dressing room.
Indian silhouettes get a contemporary edge with racerbacks and lehengas are substituted with flowy skirts. The collection will also highlight the gown sari (think zips for easy wear). Malhotra will also include colours like silver and grey in his colour palette. “When you think weddings, you don’t necessary think of these colours,” he tells us. Last season, the designer introduced navy blue that was received well, and Malhotra hopes the new colours for this season will also bring the same kind of response.
Manish on the sketch (above): “This festive season, the racer back is a twist to the Indian ensemble for the sangeet. The other outfit with the mirror work and a play of tie-dye goes opulent and feminine.”
Malhotra will showcase his collection at LakméFashion Week, on August 24, at Palladium Hotel.
