For her latest collection, designer Priyadarshini Rao was inspired by the colour, indigo. “I’ve been mesmerised by the vivid blues of the mountains, mists, sky and water, and the vegetation that is part of the undulating hills, and that’s what I’ve tried to portray in my Ode to Indigo collection for the Winter/Festive 2014 season,” she says.
Expect to see saris and lehengas in fabrics like dyed silk, Chanderi, chiffon and georgette, get a 1920s makeover with long hemlines and trapeze shapes. “I’ve created fusion looks that can be easily layered,” says Rao. “There are tunics worn with roomy pants and sheer overcoats, and dresses with wraps. The fabrics are fine and the embroideries are intricate – almost like fine paper or tissue crinkling,” she adds.
Chikankari, brocade, antique embroidery, paisleys, florals and geometric prints are the highlights of these outfits. Click through to see key pieces from Rao’s collection before they hit the runway.
Rao will showcase her line at LakméFashion Week winter/festive 2014 on August 24 at Palladium Hotel.
