Rumour has it that Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are planning to get engaged
Now, we didn't see THAT coming
Looks like director Ali Abbas Zafar has just confirmed Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s wedding through a tweet. Priyanka has walked out of the upcoming film Bharat, and while media reports speculated that it could be because she has bagged a bigger Hollywood film, Ali’s tweet indicates that she’s taking time off to marry rumoured beau Nick.
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have been the talk of the town, ever since the new couple went out on a dinner date in Mumbai, followed by a trip to Goa along with Priyanka’s friends and family, including her brother Siddharth, his girlfriend Kanika Mathur, her cousin Parineeti Chopra and mum Madhu Chopra. And according to Mumbai Mirror, the reason for Nick to be in India is to get some family bonding time before the two get engaged. That’s right — rumour has it that Priyanka and Nick are considering an engagement, around July-August.
Nick reportedly popped the question to Priyanka at his cousin’s wedding in New Jersey, and came to India to meet and greet the fam. What’s more, Mumbai Mirror reports that the two have been wearing matching purity rings, too. Well, we’re rooting for them, especially because Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are shattering misogynistic stereotypes society’s placed on us.
Being a Cancerian, Priyanka likes keeping walls around her personal life and has never publicly acknowledged being in a relationship. Now that the two have come out in the open, we’re sure it’s because their relationship has taken a serious turn. The two first made their public appearance at the Met Gala 2017 where they walked the red carpet as friends. In May this year, the two were seen attending the Beauty and the Beast Live concert at the Hollywood Bowl, which was followed by them bringing in the Memorial Day weekend cuddling on a yacht with their friends.
4 stupid stereotypes Priyanka and Nick are shattering:
Priyanka is taller than Nick for starters, and she still wears heels. Let's just say that height is a taboo that needs to be struck off our books, stat. Take a look at celebrity couple Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Anand Ahuja — the Bollywood star is taller than her businessman husband, but that hasn't interfered with their relationship at all.
Society thinks it's perfectly fine, even normal, for there to be huge age differences between partners – just as long as the man is older. It's completely normal for Bollywood actors to be seen courting women two decades younger than them onscreen (not to mention off it). But women who date younger men get saddled with unfortunate nicknames and raised eyebrows. Priyanka is not here for these double standards, and has zero interest in what you think of the 10-year age gap between her and Nick. That's commendable, especially when every move you make is going to be documented and dissected by 7.6 billion people. Take it from the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, who's three years older than her new husband, Prince Harry.
Let's make it clear, Priyanka was never going to sit back and let a man pay for her. What's cooler here is that, by all accounts, she's more famous, makes more money and is more influential than her date. Just looking at their social media, the Quantico actor has over 59 million followers hanging on to her every word and following her fashion choices, while the singer-songwriter's clout stands at a powerful but smaller 25.2 million. Kudos to Nick for not being threatened by a woman who is more successful than him.
She's 100% desi. He's American, born and bred. But does that matter? Not really. In fact, it's an opportunity to learn more about each other's culture and traditions, and soaking in the best of both worlds. Nick even commented on one of Priyanka's Instagram posts with a cheesy but 100% accurate "Mujhse shaadi karogi?" Another great example? American actress Meghan Markle, who's a member of the British Royal Family now. Here's to successful and long-lasting relationships.
The weirdest celebrity couples of 2018:
Let's not even talk about celebrity relationships if you're not prepared to discuss Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. The two reportedly met through Priyanka Chopra's Quantico co-star and Nick Jonas' friend, Graham Rogers. The first public appearance they made together was at the MET Gala last year when they showed up together in Ralph Lauren. While matching fashion sensibilities is a good enough reason as any to pick a date, the two seemed to be hitting it off on the red carpet.
Since, they have been spotted at sporting games together, as well as hanging out with a bunch of other famous people on yachts getting cosy. As a source told Us Weekly earlier this week, "They are dating and it’s brand new. It’s a good match and they are both interested in each other." The real reason why their relationship seems to weird fans out though is because nobody really saw it coming and well, the age difference. Priyanka Chopra is 10 years older than the 25-year-old, but we're here shouting "Get it, gurl." The only worry: Now that Quantico's been cancelled, how will long distance work?
Why don't you just read the body language for yourself:
We don't need to go into why this is weird and possibly not true. The rumours of these two getting together have been flying around the internet since they've been teasing fans about it on Instagram and at their respective concerts. Nicki even featured on Eminem's new track Big Bank rapping, "Told them I met Slim Shady, bag the Em/ Once he go black, he'll be back again." Anyone who has been listening to rap long enough is sure to get creeped out by this union, it's like watching your childhood merge with your present on a very dysfunctional timeline. To be honest, we're selfishly hoping this is true. Even if the couple does eventually break up, just imagine the diss tracks...
This is one for the relationship professionals. Alia Bhatt has gone on record to say how growing up, she had the biggest crush on Ranbir Kapoor. And everyone in the industry seems to have their own thoughts on Ranbir's track record when it comes to dating his co-stars. But this is only weird because it reminds us of another former celebrity relationship: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. While the age difference isn't comparable, the story is similar. A little girl grows up to be an actress and have her childhood crush turn over a new leaf to become the man of her dreams. While it didn't work out in the case of Tom and Katie, it would seem the full Kapoor clan is on board with Ranbir and Alia. Which would probably make Alia the first of Ranbir's girlfriends after Sonam to be liked by Kareena Kapoor.
This isn't weird so much as goofy. And also, unexpected. From Ariana's last two relationships, we had deduced that the singer had a type: rappers. But it turns out she's reverted to her comedy days by dating SNL star Pete Davidson. Both started out their careers young in comedy, Dave in SNL at 20 and Ariana on Nickelodeon when she was just 16. Still, Dave's goofy vibe is a far cry from Big Sean or Mac Miller, Ariana's last two boyfriends. The two have been super cutesy all over each other's Instagram, and to be honest, we're kind of happy the funny guy got the girl.
