Just in case her “Daddy’s girl” tattoo wasn’t a dead giveaway, Priyanka Chopra’s father was clearly one of the most influential people in her life. The star is a massive ball of mush when it comes to her family, claiming the first thing she does when she lands in her hometown, Mumbai, is head to her mom’s house for a home-cooked meal. So, we imagine, living a thousand-odd miles away from the fam can’t be easy for the jet-setting global celebrity. But there are a few items PC keeps close to her heart — and her person — when she’s on the move. From trinkets to photos, Priyanka opens up about the personal items divided between Mumbai, New York and Los Angeles that are closest to her.
Family photos
“Because I’m always away from my family I like to have family pictures,” Priyanka confesses, while getting nostalgic over a picture of the Chopras on one of their routine family vacations.
Lucky charm necklace
It’s not one of those silly trinkets you buy at costume jewellery stores, PC’s lucky charms are of deep significance to her. “This was a necklace that my dad used to wear when he was really sick. Now I wear it when I travel since my dad passed.” The charms all represent various faiths, there’s the Ayat al-kursi, rudraksha, a charm she got from Jerusalem and Babaji’s photo amongst others.
Refugee ring
“I was in Jordan for UNICEF and I met these refugee kids from Syria. There was just this one ring that one of the girls had on her hand and she took it out of her hand and put it mine. She just said that, ‘it’s my only possession I want you to have it’.”
Diptyque candle
They say that the sense of smell is the strongest memory trigger. We’re not sure what nostalgia the Baeis from Diptyque candle provokes for Priyanka but it’s her “fave, best ever.”
Diamond ring
Diamonds are definitely a girl’s best friend and also the method daddy Chopra employed to keep men away from his little girl. Priyanka’s dad gifted her a 7 carat ring for her 28th birthday meant to let all possible suitors know that if they want a chance with his daughter, they better know her worth. “He gave it to me and he was like, ‘Haha I’m buying this 7 carat diamond and whomever wants to marry you has to top that.’ I guess that’s a hint for whoever comes into my life. Beat this!”
Diana
Diana is PC’s faithful pup, and obviously one of her top priorities. The two met on a shoot last year and Priyanka was quick to adopt her after Diana chewed through her Burberry shoes. “And that’s when I knew we were soul mates, she had really great taste in shoes.” Yes, we’ve spotted Diana’s stellar street style too.
