No make-up make-up, undone hair, naturally beautiful skin – we’ve heard the ‘effortless’ fashion week backstage beauty references a million times, and they never get more achievable. Changing the pace is SS19, where everyone from Marc Jacobs to Matty Bovan sent models down the runway with a refreshingly rainbow-hued dose of hair colour.
Ok, so this isn’t exactly your ‘make-up in ten mins’ backstage trick either, but it’s most definitely a whole lot of fun. From 90s troll dolls to vintage candy floss, these are the multi-coloured hair shades dominating SS19.

The Hairstylist: Alex Brownsell for BLEACH
The Look: 90s troll doll pastel ponytails
The Deets: With teenagers at the heart of Ashley Williams’ collection, Brownsell combined the idea of a nostalgic 90s hair icon, the troll doll, with the modern affliction of 2018 teens – internet trolls.
Models like Georgia May Jagger received a pastel overhaul courtesy of BLEACH the night before the show, whilst others had a more temporary injection of colour via the new spray-in, rinse-out BLEACH Watercolour sprays that let Brownsell achieve her rainbow of gravity-defying ponytails without the time commitment.

The Look: Muted dusty pastels in vintage shades
The Deets: ‘This is the biggest colour project I’ve ever worked on,’ said Josh Wood backstage at Marc Jacobs SS19 in New York where almost forty models had their own hair bleached and dyed an array of candy-coloured shades.
Dusty pinks, blues, greens, and peaches were chosen to match the model’s outfits, ‘Marc didn’t want a ‘fun’ pastel, he wanted it to have history and for it to look a little vintage,’said Wood who called the look ‘anti-unicorn hair’.

The Look: Punchy paint palette brights and monogrammed buzzcuts
The Deets: Having transformed 37 models’ barnets into off kilter My Little Pony pastel updos at Marc Jacobs, Wood continued the rainbow love at Matty Bovan during London Fashion Week.
Opting for punchy, neon brights in a paint palette of electric blue, bubblegum pink and Fanta-esque orange, Wood gave models saturated, cartoon-esque ‘dos worthy of a Warhol print.
