With the introduction of his new Chikankari line, the launch of a menswear label — Itoh by Amit Babbar — and the presentation of an evocative series of photographs by Prarthna Singh titled the Inhabitants, Sanjay Garg of Raw Mango hosted a triple whammy of a celebration at his Colaba store over the weekend. The designer, whose instantly recognisable designs are largely credited with popularising the handloom sari to a new generation of aficionados, has turned his attention to the Lucknowi craft, continuing his revivalist movement.
While familiar faces like actor Dipti Naval and star trainer Namrata Purohit stopped by to check out the new collection, much of the eclectic guestlist were drawn in by the promise of an enticing menswear launch. Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist was seen exploring the capsule collection, while actors Vijay Varma and Ahaan Panday put their own unique spin on Itoh’s easy separates in soft cottons. Among the other notable guests were Diana Marian Murek of Istituto Marangoni, Jaspreet Chandok of IMG Reliance, Gunita Stobe and Marc Luburic of Anima Creative Management and celebrity yoga instructor Anshuka Parwani.
