Rediscover the capital on foot with the Delhi Walk Festival

The seven-day Delhi Walk Festival promises to help you rediscover the capital on foot. The 85 walks led by 30 specialists are centred around three hubs – Rai Lala Chunnamal Ki Haveli (Old Delhi), Alliance Francaise (Lodhi) and 1AQ, Qutub Minar. These points will also host performances by musicians, readings, film screenings and the like.

Use the opportunity to revisit the Chunnamal Haveli (1864), which stands in the heart of Chandni Chowk. The haveli is still home to the descendants of Rai Lala Chunnamal, the first municipal commissioner of Delhi during the British Raj. The family has succeeded in holding on to the haveli’s past – the courtyards are manicured, the Belgium mirrors and the intricate artwork are still around for you to witness its splendour. You’ll also find a photography exhibition dedicated to the haveli.

Other exciting tours include ‘Springing With Birds’, which takes you around the Sunder Nursery. ‘Mughal Delhi In Travellers’ Accounts’ sounds promising too. It has been curated in association with the Delhi Chapter of INTACH, which has been one of the pioneers of heritage walks in Delhi. Revisit major landmarks of Old Delhi, looking at them through the eyes of the travellers; excerpts from their accounts will be read in the course of the walk too. Eat your way through Delhi with ‘Hidden Gems In Old Delhi’. Sift through the exhaustive schedule here and don’t forget to clean up your best sneakers, you’re going to need them.
