The legacy of make-up artist Subhash (Subbu) Vagal

In memoriam

Make-up artist Subhash Vagal, fondly known as Subbu to everyone, passed away yesterday.

Passionate about his art and low-key about his expertise, Subbu’s long list of clients included everyone from Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif to Tabu and Kareena Kapoor Khan. He did one of his first magazine covers with ELLE India back in 1997 with model Laila Rouass, and has since been a part of some of the most iconic fashion editorials. Over these two decades, Subbu achieved the well-regarded position in the style and entertainment industry in some parts because he quietly rallied against the look of excess.

One of Subbu's first covers with model Laila Rouass
Nobody could do subtlety like Subbu
Lara Dutta's 2009 cover was talked about for a very long time
Neutral makeup with finesse was Subbu’s specialty
Subbu knew, just one bold lip could turn a look around
Anushka's androgenous vibe wouldn't have been complete without Subbu's understanding of minimalism
Subbu always knew how to make Bebo's natural beauty shine through

His contemporary style is a symbol of our era, and his legacy will never be forgotten.
