Ruchika Sachdeva on winning the coveted International Woolmark Prize 2018

Designer Ruchika Sachdeva of Bodice has her eyes set on global domination and is well on her way there, too. In February this year, she bagged the International Woolmark prize, whose past recipients include Karl Lagerfeld and Rahul Mishra. Staying true to her minimalistic aesthetic of reimagined classics, Sachdeva’s victorious collection was created using responsibly sourced Indian materials and handicrafts. Her win, and subsequent stocking at e-commerce giants such as Farfetch and MyTheresa, has put our country front and centre on the fashion map. All this success has also led to the brand shifting to a new studio in Delhi, with its own landscaped garden, and an increase in managerial staff. “I think what contributed the most to our growth was the acceptance we received in the market and the goodwill we have created over the years. I believe that an honest product speaks for itself, and with time people have come to truly love what we create,” says the designer, who was also on Business Of Fashion’s list of the 500 most powerful people in the industry, worldwide.
