Designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil Mehra will be showcasing their latest collection, Recruit SS’19 at the grand finale of Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2019. This marks the label’s first ever finale at the biannual fashion show, where they will close the five-day fashion event.
The collection will showcase silhouettes that give traditional elements an edgy and eccentric touch. Exaggerated drapes with dramatic mesh overlays take on classic skirts, oversized capes, silk tassels, and intricate embroidery. On this ultimate moment, Nikhil says, “It’s come at a great time because this time Lakme has reinvented itself with a whole new journey of matte and, being the anti-trend designers, we’ve always focused on colours that are matte. This time we get a chance to make the ultimate matte which means it’s something for us to work on and I cannot tell you how excited we are.” This ‘ultimate matte’, Shantanu adds, will be red hot. He says, “We’ve never dabbled with the colour red in the past—this itself was a reinvention for us. There’ll be a lot of red, with black and gold worked in.”
Complementing the designer duo’s ethereal collection, the beauty looks for the show will be focussed on mattes rather than traditional high-gloss shimmer. A make-up trend that is loved by many, Lakme will be reimagining this style in a big way.
