Six looks to try this party season
And a step-by-step guide to ace them

We teamed up with celebrity make-up artist Arti Nayar and hair experts from Jean-Claude Biguine to give classic party looks a fresh update.
On Shriya Pilgaonkar
Make-up: Everyone seems to have finally embraced the fuchsia lip. But can it really last the entire party? The trick lies in creating a good foundation. First start by conditioning your lips with a balm, then line and fill your lips with a matching lip liner. “Wearing a liner under a bright lipstick makes your lips look fuller and your colour stay longer,” says Nayar. Remember to leave the eyes bare.
Hair: Amp up the volume to perfect the messy bun. Spray dry shampoo at the roots for a lift, then tie your hair into a loose bun at the back of your head – don’t bother with the flyaways.

Make-up: Freshen up the classic smoky eyes with shimmering shades of lavender. Apply a wash of light purple across the lid and a little on the bottom lash line. Sweep a dark shade around the crease for depth, and use a gold pencil on the inner corners of the eyes. “Using a brown kajal along your waterline will soften the look. And since the eyes are bold, the lips should be a pinkish nude,” says Nayar.
Hair: Let your hair fall with loose waves created by using a curling mousse or beach waves serum on your hair and scrunching them with your fingers. Create a side parting and pin up a small section over your ear on the side of the smaller part to add definition.

Make-up: Keep your cheeks bare this time and let your eyes grab all the attention. With a shimmer blue gel liner outline your eyes; stay close to your upper lash line and then, extend it outside the eye in an upward angle to achieve the cat-eye. Using the same eyeliner, moving inward, line one third of your lower lash line. Follow it up with mascara. Nayar recommends using a thin brush for extra precision.
Hair: If you have relatively straight hair, curl them and then diffuse them with a blow dryer to create lots of volume. If you’re blessed with curly hair run a comb through them to open up the curls and apply anti-frizz serum to settle them down and part your hair into a deep side parting and pin it to one side with an embellished pin.

Make-up: There’s nothing like a bit of gold to brighten up your face. Amplify the usual metallic eyes with a glittering eyeliner. Start with a muted shimmer gold shadow across your lid and follow it up with a bright gold liner across the upper eye lid. Nayar says, “Wear a light brown liner before the gold to make the metallic liner stay in place”. Wear a tint of pink on your cheeks and lips for finishing touches.
Hair: The easiest way to cheat a short crop, create a faux bob by tucking the length of your hair in your jacket. But first create a center part and loosely curl the shorter layers around your face. Run your fingers through it to soften the look and tuck the rest under your collar. Pull out a few bits to loosen the effect. This works best for an outdoor party when you’re sure of staying in your jacket.

Make-up: A berry lip is perfect for the party season. Start by lining your lips with a liner and then apply a matte berry lipstick straight from the tube. “After applying lipstick take a little powder on a puff and gently dab it on the lips to make the colour last all night long,” says Nayar. Stick to volumising mascara for your eyes.
Hair: The undone braid is perfect for a casual house party. Apply texturizing spray and create a side part bringing all your hair over one shoulder. Braid it normally by splitting the hair into three parts, and after securing it with a hair tie gently pull out a few sections to loosen the braid for a messy feel.

Make-up: Master a glossy coral lip, first line your lips with a coral lipliner and then top it with transparent gloss. Nayar recommends a lip brush to apply gloss all over the lip or just in the center for an enhanced pout. Finish with apricot-shade blush on the hollows of your cheeks and brushed-out brows.
Hair: Side-swept waves always work like a charm. Begin by creating a deep side-part and then split your hair into smaller sections for curls. Use a 32mm-thick curling wand on the lower half of your hair to get big loose curls. Pull them all over one shoulder and pin the back. Apply a few drops of shine serum to smoothen the top, and mist hairspray to make the curls last all night.
