The romantic aesthetic of the early ’90s is back, in the form of sensual slips. The updated version of the iconic bias-cut dress is slinkier than ever in delicate silk and scalloped lace trims, as seen at Céline and Haider Ackermann. But the trick to owning the look is to tone down the sexy and amp up the cool. Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein and DRVV by Dhruv Kapur added unexpected twists, with sneakers in some cases, and gauche boyish layers in others. Burberry gave a rebellious edge to the dress by mixing textures, like satin with perforated mesh. Staying true to the seductive power of the slip dress, Givenchy showed us how to take the boudoir trend from bedroom to cocktails. But the ultimate ode came from Saint Laurent, who went heavy on the grunge vibe and topped things off with an ironic tiara.
