It’s a few days before the unveiling of their Fall/Winter 2014-15 collection and Satya Paul’s creative director Masaba Gupta has already picked out her favourite piece from the line-up. “[It’s] one for comfort. I love the colour-blocked shift dresses and jersey outerwear.” Ahead of her second prêt show for the brand, Gupta tells us what to expect from the new collection, ‘Icarus’, set to showcase at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.
“The idea behind the collection was to explore the realms of illusion and use them to trick the audience and create an element of wonder.”
“The unstitched sari remains our hero. This time round, we have worked on wearable, pre-stitched versions keeping the young wearer in mind. There are also day separates like shift dresses and shirts paired with effortless outerwear; winter capes, jumpers and tunics. My favorite separate this season is the woollen petticoat.”
“The palette is fresh but dense. Combinations of toffee brown, lilac, crimson, nude, mint and soft pink are colour-blocked with metallic accents. Deep burgundy has also been used extensively through the collection as a rich undertone.”
“The key print story renders activity; like a running tap dripping water, water being poured into a glass and a plant blooming. Motifs are digitally engineered onto separates and further highlighted through patchwork or partial embellishments.”
“This time we have created cute haversacks, vanity cases and holdall bags for better utility in addition to the scarves, stoles and bags we do every season. “
