Indian designers are going global and it’s no longer limited to a select few. Kolkata-based designer, Sneha Arora stands a chance to win 20,000 euros to expand her business. The women’s western wear designer who recently showcased an ink-blotched collection and made a mark on the fashion world with her military-inspired designs last season, has been handpicked to be part of The Future of Fashion Program. A project conceived by Not Just A Label, in conjunction with Who’s Next, it gives 20 designers the platform to grow internationally. And Arora has made it to the even shorter list of 10 designers which includes brands like Hanger, Dora Abodi, Kelly Love and Michal Taharlev to name a few.
These ready-to-wear and accessories designer will receive monthly coaching from programme mentors including Stefan Siegel, founder and director of Not Just a Label and buyers for Lambert and Associates, a fashion consultancy and purchasing office that specialises in label development amongst others.
At the end of the July trade show a new selection will cut the number of designers down from ten to six, then six to two in January 2015. The winning duo will be invited back to showcase at Who’s Next in 2015, and will continue to receive coaching by their mentors for an extra six months.
Who’s Next – a fashion and accessories trade show that curates the best from over 30 countries is scheduled to start in Paris tomorrow and will be on till July 7. The event brings together over 1,000 ready-to-wear labels and 650 accessory designers, along with emerging design talent. And we’re excited to see several of our own make the cut. Pankaj & Nidhi, Hemant & Nandita, Ranna Gill and Vineet Bahl, are just a few of the country’s most talented designers, heading to Paris this weekend.
