Inside Soho House Mumbai’s first star-studded party

Years (it’s true!) in the making, Soho House’s first India outpost opened earlier this month in Mumbai. To mark the occasion, the inclusive members-only club, with Houses all over the world, threw a massive party last night. The star-studded guest list for Soho House Mumbai’s first ever House Party included some of Bollywood’s biggest names, including Karan Johar, Shraddha Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Harshvardhan Kapoor and Preity Zinta. Also in attendance were well-known creative professionals from Mumbai like celebrity stylist Tanya Ghavri, restaurateur AD Singh, Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification and well-known lyricist Prasoon Joshi, Chef Vicky Ratnani, designer Vikram Phadnis, and Rannvijay Singh.

Everything from the cocktails to music was expertly curated by Soho House. Spread over three of the 11 floors—the main members’ floor, the gorgeous rooftop and the library—the party started at The Allis where guests were welcomed with a watermelon shot. The live music was a mix of groovy retro tunes, the latest disco funk and smooth jazz. A selection of Soho House Mumbai’s spectacular cocktails, including the champagne martini and ghee desi fashioned, was on the menu. These were paired with small bites and nibbles, like fried mozzarella and spicy tomato, as well as quintessentially Indian fare. A representation of the city’s diverse culture, the dessert counter was well-balanced—with tiramisu at one end and the gulab jamun and rabri at the other.

The first of many House Parties, the evening set the precedent for life at this one-of-a-kind gymkhana. A place for the city’s creative community to work together, and play together, Soho House occupies a unique place in Mumbai’s landscape and everyone wants in. “ I think it’s really cool when a lot of creative people jam together, I’m looking forward to being a member,” Shraddha Kapoor told ELLE.
