Solange curates kicks for Puma

You know someone is committed to fashion when she wears a jumpsuit to get married. With a cape. Back in the news after her terribly chic wedding last month, singer, songwriter, music label owner and woman leading the charge on bringing back afros and retro style, Solange has launched her second limited edition line of sneakers for Puma. Part of the capsule collection Puma X Solange, the line is split into Wild Wonder and Behind the Bazaar, which reinvent two Puma favourites: the Suede, beloved by ’80s hip hop artists, and the Trinomic XT2, designed for runners. It’s okay to just love them for their pretty neon colours, though.

As art director and creative consultant to the sports brand, Solange curates collections with the help of designer friends. Awash in bursts of hot pink, lime green, purple and gold, the collection was designed by Gerlan Marcel, Hisham Bharoocha and Darlene and Izzy Opko of William Opko. Wild Wonder also has options for those who don’t want to put eyes out on their morning run, in ‘shades of sand’, which sounds nice and soothing.

Puma has collaborated with designers in the past—Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan—but for lines like this one and the first, Girls of Blaze, released early this year, they have just borrowed Solange’s eye for fashion, evident in everything from her red carpet outings to her painstakingly styled Instagram account. There’s a rumour they’ll be getting Rihanna on board soon to cast her fabulous eye on everything from shoes to clothes. All told, it’s a good time to get into fitness for the look of it.

Puma X Solange is available on Openingceremony.us and Shopbop.com; Behind the Bazaar drops December 13, 2014
