In between attending the National Awards, dropping her first-ever clothing line Rheson and her back-to-back shoot schedule, Sonam Kapoor has been woefully unprepared for the red carpet extravaganza that is the Cannes Film Festival. In a recent interview with PTI, she confided, “This year, since we are busy doing so many other things, I have not prepared much for Cannes. Usually, my sister Rhea styles me and she is busy making the film Veere Di Wedding. I was busy shooting for two films and promoting our fashion brand Rheson. We decided not to put any pressure on ourselves and just have a good time. So we don’t think about it much. It’s not about the status quo of being on the Cannes red carpet.”
It would be worth noting at this point that Sonam’s idea of “unprepared” involves holographic saris and custom Elie Saab gowns worthy of royalty. Just two days and two appearances in, the actress has already given us some of the memorable looks of the year. Let’s dive in, shall we?
Sonam began her Cannes 2017 stint with an iridescent sari and white mesh blouse from Nor Black Nor White that you’re totally excused for not being able to tear your eyes away from. Topped off with geometric baubles from Chinese label Lynn Ban and pastel-perfect make-up, Miz Kapoor was at one with the French Riviera.
The pastel love affair continued on the red carpet with a delicate blush-coloured gown from Elie Saab. Loop in some heavy danglers from Kalyan Jewellers and that fresh pink glow, and Sonam had (another) red carpet hit on her hands.

Preceded by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, Sonam has been judicious at Cannes this year, limiting her appearances to just two in as many days. There’s something to be said about making it worth the wait though.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at Cannes 2017
If we looked even half as good post 40, we’d thank our stars and live out our days in bliss. Aishwarya took to the Cannes red carpet looking at least a decade younger in a steady stream of voluminous gowns from Michael Cinco and Ralph & Russo.
