Sonam Kapoor is taking a crack at building her upper body strength. Over the next 15 days she’ll perfect her push-ups. The results will be for all to see, because her progress will be tracked at 5-day intervals on her trainer Yasmin Karachiwala’s Instagram account.
It all started with Kapoor insisting, “Oh, I can do five push-ups!” when she was doing squats at the gym recently. But “she did them really badly,” says Karachiwala. “When you’re challenged to do something you push yourself to the limit. More than you normally would. And women in India typically don’t focus enough on their upper body strength.”
In fact, Karachiwala has been running a series of challenges. (Remember the squat challenge she did with Sophie Choudry?) All of August is dedicated to beginners and push-ups. You can easily join the campaign and keep up with Kapoor in this case. She suggests you use a combination of planks, TRX and “anything that requires you to balance your body weight on your arms, and maintain your form”. It works to strengthen your core, and overall stamina and that, Karachiwala underscores, is more important than anything else.
