One of the most important rituals in a Hindu wedding is when the groom ties a mangalsutra around the bride’s neck and fills her maang with sindoor. This is usually done post the seven vows in front of the holy fire (we decoded the meaning behind Indian wedding traditions, read them here) and is worn for the well-being and protection of the husband. Interestingly, Sonam Kapoor’s mangalsutra was designed by the actor herself, and she picked out an unusual and meaningful detail to make it special.
The Veere Di Wedding actor got fine jewellery designer, Usheeta Rawtani, to create a mangalsutra which also incorporated symbols of their zodiac signs — hers being Gemini and his, Leo — which are completed by a single solitaire in the centre.
