Style spy: Fashion mix
DR KIRAN LOHIA
CV: I graduated from Columbia University with an MD specialising in Dermatology, followed by a residency in Israel and work in Manhattan. Two years ago, I shifted to Delhi and started my private practice, Lumiere Dermatology, while also consulting at Fortis Hospital.
MY STYLE is modern-feminine. I like cinched waists, tailored silhouettes and lots of colour. I don’t like monochromatic or a top-to-toe matched look; there is always an element of surprise to my style.
GROWING UP I was surrounded by beautiful clothes as my father was in the garment industry. He kept an eye on the current trends and made sure that we were always dressed to the nines.
I DON'T DISCRIMINATE between brands. From little boutiques in New York and street shops in Bangkok to high-street brands (like Topshop, Zara, Massimo Dutti) and luxury labels, I shop anywhere that has lovely things. My favourite designer labels are Preen, Peter Pilotto, Zac Posen and Gucci.

31, CEO, Kitsch
CV: I did my undergrad in Law from the London School of Economics, followed by a Masters from University College, London. I then moved back to India to work in the family business, and later helmed the operations for Tommy Hilfiger in India from 2004 to 2007. In 2008, I launched Kitsch – a multi-label outfit – followed by our concept store in 2013.
IN MY MIND I’m bohemian, but in my personal style, I swing between super-glamorous and rock-chic. Think boyfriend jeans with classic stilettos.
I LIKE TO BUILD my wardrobe rather than buying pieces that are on trend. I mix and match the old with the new – I’m always creating outfits in my head. It’s not about the labels, it’s about what works.
I TEND TO VEER towards brands like Saint Laurent, Céline and Chloé, which are sophisticated, with clean lines. For dresses, I’d pick Victoria Beckham, and when it comes to the high street, Zara is a no-brainer. I also like H&M for shirts and J. Crew for tees.

23, CEO, Ekaya
CV: After graduating in Business Management from Kings College, London, I returned to India in 2012 and launched Ekaya that September. I come from a family business that deals with the wholesale trade of Benarasi saris – I’m the third generation to join the business, but the first to get into retail.
MY PERSONAL STYLE is very classic. I prefer straight cuts and don’t wear a lot of flared, girly silhouettes or prints. I usually stick to a single solid colour like red, black or purple.
WHEN IT COMES TO LUXURY I like timeless brands like Bottega Veneta, Salvatore Ferragamo, Céline and Dior. For my high-street fix, I turn to brands like Ted Baker, Pull & Bear, Bershka and Topshop.
MY WORK WARDROBE is more high street than high end. However, I do mix the casual buys with luxe accessories like shades, bags or a nice watch.
WHILE SHOPPING I tend to veer towards non-fussy pieces, like my first luxury investment – a classic Burberry trench.

29, Corporate food and wine consultant, The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts
CV: I graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, New York in 2008, which I followed with a specialisation in Culinary Arts Management at the same institute, and then worked at the Mandarin Oriental in New York. In 2009, I returned to India and joined my father at The Leela Hotels. My love for food led me to start a bespoke pastry brand, Dolce, while my drive towards fitness motivated me to launch AMAI – a range of macrobiotic health snacks.
I UNDERSTAND: My body very well and know just the look I want to put together for myself every morning. My wardrobe is a strict mix of red, white and black, with hints of nude.
I LIKE to shop when I’m travelling abroad. London and Paris are where I’m an inexcusable shopaholic. My go-to designer labels are Helmut Lang, Dior, Balmain and Alexander Wang. I love to mix these up with versatile picks from Zara and Forever 21.
MY STYLE ICONS are Dita Von Teese, Cruella de Vil and Linda Fargo – all with minimalist, eclectic styles.
