The steady rise of Indian heptathlete Swapna Barman

As a heptathlete, Swapna has to complete seven track and field events—throwing, jumping, running, hurdling—over two days. It is a test of physical endurance for any athlete but more so for the Jalpaiguri, West Bengal-native who has six toes on each feet that she painfully stuffs into her shoes. At the Asian Games, she had to additionally contend with an excruciating toothache, too. But she endured and won gold, becoming the first Indian heptathlete to do so. Now, Swapna, who is endorsed by adidas, has seven pairs of customised shoes. Which only means that she will be once and for all, invincible.
