Tarun Tahiliani for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015

Tarun Tahiliani presented his ready-to-wear collection at Lakmé Fashion Week this Sunday. His line-up included easy separates – crop tops with simple gold embroidery, skirts, peplum gilets and capelets, scarves in bold vibrant prints. Essentially, everything you need to mix and match. There were also draped jersey dresses and jumpsuit-sari hybrids (the stars of the show).

Actor Chitrangada Singh, the showstopper said, “Tarun’s collections are always simple, classic, elegant and very feminine; that’s what I love. His designs are effortless and more importantly wearable.”

ELLE: What was the central idea behind this collection?
Tarun Tahiliani: I see that Indian wear more often than not moves into this very OTT space. Then there’s your western wear – full of separates. But both have been restricted, like one piece will only match with one other piece. Options become limited. That’s when I decided I wanted to create a line that’s truly a fusion, where there are endless pairing possibilities for each piece in the collection – making it truly versatile.

ELLE: The jumpsuit-sari really stood out.
TT: The sari, the lungi and dhoti were major influences. We had earlier done a dhoti-sari and this just evolved from there.

ELLE: What are the 5 essentials from your collection that every girl should have in her wardrobe?
TT: The lungi-skirts, the crop top with gold work (it goes with almost everything in the collection), the cashmere wrap, the peplum gilet (to add some edge to your wardrobe) and the jumpsuit sari, of course.
