Time to rummage through your kitchen

Grandma’s recipes aren’t just the secret to finger-licking good food, they’re also the key to glowing skin and healthy hair. When it comes to skincare and haircare, trust is essential and if there’s one thing everyone blindly puts their faith in, it’s natural homemade beauty remedies—including celebrities. While a few commercial products may make it to their holy grail, they will always vouch for ingredients stashed away in their kitchen cabinets. From Priyanka Chopra, to Kendall Jenner here are 10 homemade skincare and haircare remedies that the stars swear by.

Jacqueline Fernandez

Egg whites make for a healthy breakfast as well as a great hair mask—Jacqueline seems to think so too. The actress massages the concoction on her scalp for stronger and thicker hair.

Janhvi Kapoor

This young star credits her mother and grandmother for her glowing skin. Their secret? To apply what you eat on to your face and hair too. Janhvi has been applying kitchen ingredients like ghee, malai on her skin, and eggs, beer, and fenugreek (methi) on her hair, for years.

Blake Lively

This Gossip Girl is all about going natural with her haircare routine. She applies mayonnaise on the length of her hair before she steps in for a shower. In an interview with Byrdie she said doing this prevents the shampoo from drying out the ends.

Miranda Kerr

Green tea can relax you in more than one way! This Victoria's Secret angel uses this ingredient as part of her weekly skincare routine—by steaming her face with it. This opens up the pores, nourishes the skin and leaves it looking youthful.

Emma Stone

Thanks to her allergies, Emma Stone discovered the goodness of using natural alternatives for her moisturiser—grape seed oil being her substitute. She uses this store-bought oil post a shower, and all through the day and night.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

PC’s go-to facial is not one she gets in West Hollywood, but one she whips up at home. A homemade yoghurt facial with oatmeal and turmeric helps Chopra achieve her instant Hollywood-meets-Bollywood glow.

Madhuri Dixit Nene

Ever wondered how this golden girl retained her luscious locks for so many years? Madhuri applies olive oil and castor oil on her hair and works the mixture into her roots. This strengthens the hair and gives it a natural shine.

Kendall Jenner

This supermodel was in the limelight last year because of her sudden battle with acne. On Jenner’s website she revealed that she uses an au naturel spot treatment which helps prevent her breakouts. Half a teaspoon of lemon juice, half a teaspoon of baking soda, and a teaspoon of honey left overnight on the skin zaps Jenner’s zits in an instant.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Vouching for natural homemade remedies over store bought products, she uses a mix of gram flour (good ol’ besan), milk and turmeric to exfoliate her skin. Like Priyanka, Aishwarya too applies yoghurt to moisturise her face.

Aditi Rao Hydari

Aditi customises her face mask according to what her skin feels like on the day. When her skin is oily, she uses a mix of dried and powdered orange peel with gram flour and yoghurt, and when her skin feels dry her go-to mask is a mixture of ground oats with honey and milk. Looks like the secret to Aditi’s ethereal glow lies in your kitchen cabinet.
