India International Jewellery Week 2014 came to a close last night – but not before leaving us with a serious case of fashion envy. We present to you a round-up of the baubles we loved, the ones that made us believe that all that glitters is, in fact, gold.
Heralding the start of this glamour fest was Gitanjali, with a range of lightweight, affordable jewellery. The intricate diamond necklace with matching cocktail earrings was the winner in this collection, for its clean and simple aesthetic. Continuing the show with a distinctly contemporary sensibility was Surya Golds. We loved the Indo-Western styling inherent in their scalloped collar, inlaid with rubies and emeralds. Swarovski, on the other hand, went the traditional route. They showcased brides from around the country, dressed in jewellery typical to their region – and it was ultimately the diamond-draped South Indian bride that stole the spotlight. Shobha Shringar went ethnic as well, with a collection of antique pieces. Dia Mirza opened the show in a bejewelled bib, maang tikka, bangles and chandelier shoulder clusters.
Dainty and ethereal, the trinkets at Rio Tinto painted a pretty picture with Sonam Kapoor as the showstopper, wearing a delicate pair of four-leaf clover earrings. Ganjam displayed a beautiful collection of heritage pieces – colour took centre stage – with their multi-hued hair ornaments and earrings winning our vote. Farah Khan went classic with a range suited for what she described as the ‘femme fatale’. We loved the diamond and sapphire set, perfect for an elegant night out.
Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas dug deep into India’s heritage, presenting jewellery with filigree work, polki and uncut diamonds – old-world charm in a new avatar. And closing the week was PC Jewellers, with its range of bridal jewellery. Opulent and eye-catching, the kundan and polki sets were a beautiful accompaniment to the wedding ensembles. Bipasha Basu closed the show in a diamond, emerald and pearl set from the collection.
