Word on the street after the first day of Lakmé Fashion Week? The kids are alright.
Bright new stars debuted at the Gen Next show – P.E.L.L.A by Priyanka Ella Lorena Lama picked Zen whites and volume as her running theme; Kanika Goyal mixed roughed-up denim with luxe outerwear; Kaleekal by Alan Alexander Kaleekal went for spartan simplicity with deconstructed shapes in frayed muslin; Gréusha by Ankit Carpenter sent out a sunny suit; Salita Nanda went all Cubist on us and Manish Bansal gave the fashion-forward boys something to look forward to with smart, sharply-tailored summer separates.
The not-so-new crew also had plenty of exciting designs in store for us. Ilk by Shikha & Vinita recreated stripes through floral texture, Yogesh Chaudhary made a sari-dress hybrid at Surendri, Frou Frou by Archana Rao’s pastel patch-worked coat was something we would ignore the heat for, Karishma Shahani gave a masterclass in texture play and Huemn’s Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty made slinky suits for the sporty girl.
