The emotional significance behind Janhvi Kapoor’s Anamika Khanna lehenga

Like almost every outfit worn on this whirlwind promotional tour for her debut film Dhadak, Janhvi Kapoor’s Anamika Khanna lehenga is striking and enhances the pretty debutante’s ‘desi girl’ appeal. But this particular garment has a special emotional connection that goes beyond mere aesthetics. Followers of Lakme Fashion Week will recall that the last time Sridevi and her daughter made a red carpet appearance together was at Anamika Khanna’s spectacular finale presentation at the outdoor amphitheatre in Bandra — featuring the very collection that this lehenga belongs to. A perfect balance of old world embroidery techniques and new-age silhouettes, the collection could not have been more apt for Janhvi, who is officially carrying on her mother’s wonderful acting legacy.

Sridevi and her daughters have been long-time fans of the Kolkata-based couturier, and Janhvi even chose a striking modern lehenga from the designer’s 2017 couture show for another major milestone: her first official appearance as an actor at the International Film Festival of India in Goa last year. At the time, her stylist Tanya Ghavri had mentioned, “Anamika Khanna truly defines modern Indian couture and makes a woman feel feminine sexy and powerful all that I wanted for this gorgeous girl for her first red carpet after her debut film announcement.”
