Netflix has a new drama slated to hit our screens next month, and we obviously have already cleared space in our calendars for an unabashed binge. Based on the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, The Crown promises to gives us an all-access pass into the gilded world of the British monarchy.
The ten-part series is being touted as one of Netflix’s most ambitious projects yet, and with good reason. Designer Michele Clapton takes us into the intricacies of Her Majesty’s wardrobe in this exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette. From the opulent wedding dress that was hand-embroidered over the course of six weeks to mirror Queen Elizabeth II’s real life version in 1947 to the Swarovski-embellished coronation gown, the costume department may just have outdone themselves. 350 principal outfits and 7000 extras are said to have been generated over the course of production. The result? A visual masterpiece that does absolute justice to history.
The Crown stars Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II and Matt Smith as Prince Phillip, and will release on November 4.
