After a brief time-out, our favourite gourmet eatery is back with a bang. And going by the brief preview that they slipped our way, it has been well worth the wait. The Sassy Spoon opens its doors tomorrow in Bandra and if you can’t make it for the relaunch, join us on a virtual tour to skip the FOMO.
Founders Rachel Goenka and Chef Irfan Pabaney have looked to the Parisian countryside for inspiration. Expect vintage floral artwork, wooden French armoires behind the bar and the cutest little pink ombre rope ceiling on the outside patio. “It’s a lot more colourful and, in my opinion, the space is a lot cosier and romantic than it was before. The lamps are probably my favourite part of the design as well as the ‘lady in the jam jar’ wall,” says Goenka.
The brief for the menu was to incorporate different international cuisines with a signature sassy twist. We are looking at a revamped offering including fun bar bites, the best of Asian and Indian cuisines and quirky cocktails: the Indus Gimlet (chaat masala, lime & gin), Morning Brew (whisky and espresso) and Gold Member (vodka house-infused green tea kava liqueur) have been bumped to the top of our priority lists.
You may also want to consider bringing your fat pants along for this one. The sinful new menu features Sri Lankan spiced chicken poi, smoked tenderloin burger with an in-house beer ricotta and prawn pakoras. Round off your meal with their signature desserts (basil fondant and the 7 textured hazelnut and chocolate) or opt for the sticky toffee pudding if you are in the mood to experiment.
