The Veere Di Wedding trailer is going to have you arguing with your boyfriend
"Do you know what an orgasm is called in Hindi?"
The Veere Di Wedding trailer is everything you’d expect from a big Punjabi wedding. In real life, not the Manish Malhotra-styled version that made Karan Johar a multi-millionaire. Launched by Kareena Kapoor Khan’s abs at a press event this afternoon, the Veere Di Wedding trailer spits out the kind of truth bombs we didn’t think Bollywood was ready to serve.
While movies like Delhi Belly and Pyaar Ka Punchnama have been positioned as ‘bro comedies’, blowing fart jokes out the wazoo, we’ve been waiting years for an actual laugh-out-loud moment where the women onscreen do things that flesh-and-blood women do. Like casually talk about not getting laid in a year because everyone knows the most effective form of birth control is an actual baby.
Or deal with messed-up marriages without clutching at your sari pallu as you dissolve into tears.
Or voice the fact that no number how many educational qualifications you’ve earned or corporate ladders you’ve scaled, your life is incomplete without a mangalsutra around your neck.
This is Oprah-meets-The Hangover realness here, and we are glad that somebody in the Hindi film industry has woken up to the fact that women have a sense of humour too. Shoutout to co-producers Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, because god knows we’ve suffered through enough saas-bahu dramas to deserve this.
