You can now see exactly how much time you’re wasting on Instagram

For all of the calculated time and effort that goes into capturing the perfect Instagram, scrolling through your feed is a mindless activity that might be eating up more time than you think. On the subway: scroll. During commercials: scroll. On your lunch break: scroll, scroll, scroll. Now, thanks to Instagram’s newest feature, you can see exactly how much time you’re spending scrolling, liking, and Insta-stalking every day.

Update your app and go to your profile settings to see the new “Your Activity” feature, which displays a graph with a visual breakdown of the time you’ve spent on Instagram that day (on that device). Tap any of the bars in the graph to see the total time spent on Instagram for the corresponding day.

“We have a responsibility to help people understand how much time they spend on our platforms so they can better manage their experience,” the brand wrote in a press release. “We developed these tools based on collaboration and inspiration from leading mental health experts and organizations, academics, our own extensive research and feedback from our community. We want the time people spend on Instagram and Facebook to be intentional, positive and inspiring.”

With the new feature, users can also temporarily mute push notifications for a set period of time and decide on the maximum amount of time they’d like to spend on the app each day, enabling you to set a daily reminder for when you’ve reached your pre-determined limit.

Does your personal Instagram graph surprise you?
