ELLE and Forest Essentials co-hosted a talk on ‘Artisanal Wine and Food Pairing’ based on doshas, at the luxury beauty brand’s Delhi store. It started off with personal consultations with their Ayurvedic experts where our guests discovered their dosha as per the body composition.
If you’re new to the concept of ‘Doshas’, here’s a breakdown: according to Ayurveda, Vata (wind), Pitta (fire) and Kapha (water) are the three energies that make up our body constitution. At a given point in time, one of these doshas is usually more dominant than the other two. But it is important to have all three doshas aligned. Hence, it is essential to have a healthy lifestyle, which includes eating the foods and following a skincare regime that compliment your dosha.
The guests were handed over a personalised leaflet with intricate details decoding their dominant dosha’s personality and characteristic. This was followed by a quick primer on the Ayurvedic nuances of wine drinking by Dr Taruna Yadav, Forest Essentials’ Senior Ayurveda Expert and Simon Kujur, Fratelli’s Wine Sommelier. The rules to drinking, sans a hangover, are simple—the type of wine you take should be in sync with your body composition.
The evening ended on a high note as our guests enjoyed a selection of Fratelli wines. A special menu was designed by Caara Catering for each body composition. It offered ‘canapes’ prepared with ingredients specific to each dosha type and a dessert, inspired by one of their hero products ‘Date & Litchi Cream’. Each guest was presented with a beautifully wrapped gift box from their iconic Soundarya Range – perfect for the upcoming Bridal season, accompanied by a curated collection of product samples in sync with their doshas.
The rule, to no-headache wine drinking is simple–the type you consume should be in tune with your body composition. So, here’s some expert advice from Dr. Taruna on how to find a balance, this party season.
Vata
Vata’s skin is thin and fine-pored all over, and ever so slightly cool and dry. The Forest Essentials Facial Cleanser Mashobra Honey Lemon and Rose Water suits their delicate and dry skin type.
They must opt for a sweeter, warmer wine and mix it with some fresh pomegranate juice, lime, ginger, club soda and a dash of nutmeg. Pair it with banana bread–it’s rich and moist, which will soothe the dosha.
Pitta
The heat is of fire is penetrating and stimulating, always dehydrating. Cooling fragrances such as sensuous florals, woody accords are Pitta’s perfect match like the Forest Essentials Body Mist Rose & Cardamom.
Beat the heat with just white wine or whip up a cooling concoction of it with chilled coconut water, honey melon juice, cucumber, soda and fresh mint leaves. Team it up with a dosha-pacifying accompaniment like avocado, cucumber and barley salad.
Kapha
While they have thick and lustrous hair, Kapha’s skin is usually prone to oiliness which is best balanced with the Forest Essentials Hydrating Aloe Vera Gel.
If you’re ready to go the extra mile, try a spritzer that has some red wine, fresh orange crush, spices like clove and anise and fresh basil leaves. It serves as a great pick-me-up, especially when paired with a canapé combination of zucchini with potatoes.
